Do you have anxiety about seeing the dentist? We understand, which is why we strive to offer comfortable treatment using dental sedation. In today’s blog, your team at Family First Dental in Overland Park, KS, talks about how we ensure a comfortable treatment experience with sedation dentistry!
When You Need Dental Sedation
Dental sedation offers comfortable treatment for our patients, but when do we recommend this for our patients? This could help ensure comfort for people undergoing more extensive retreatments, such as dental implant placement or even wisdom tooth extraction. We could also offer calming options to help people with dental anxiety or special needs receive care with comfort, offering a positive experience in our office. We will choose the right option for you based on factors like age, weight, medical history, anxiety levels, or medications being taken. From there, we can choose whether you need nitrous oxide or an oral conscious option to enjoy comfortable treatment.
Nitrous Oxide
For patients of all ages, including kids and adults, we could offer comfortable treatment with a sedation form known as nitrous oxide. With his option, a mask is placed over the nose and the patient inhales a gas, entering a deep state of calm and euphoria, with little to no memory of the procedure. You stay conscious and able to respond to the dentist as needed. The effects can be adjusted during treatment, and ends once the procedure does, so you could return to work or school, you could even drive yourself home!
Oral Conscious
If you need a deeper state of calm, we could offer comfortable treatment with oral conscious. We will recommend avoiding food and drink for a few hours before the procedure begins, and will likely schedule the visit in the morning. When you arrive, we will offer this in the form of a pill or liquid. You take this and enter a deeper state of calm, with no memory of the process, but you still remain conscious and able to respond to the dentist as needed.
The effects last longer, so you may be a bit groggy afterward, and will need someone available to take you home. Our team will provide any aftercare instructions as needed. If you have any questions about comfortable treatment with our dental sedation options, or if you want to schedule a checkup and cleaning to see what care your smile may need, then please reach out to our team today to learn more! You deserve good oral health, your whole family does too, and we want to help.
